There are fewer brands on the planet that are held in such high esteem as COMME des GARÇONS. Since its inception in 1973 by Rei Kawakubo, the Japanese brand has grown into a global powerhouse, working with the likes of Supreme, Nike and many more. Now, CDG is teaming up with Stüssy to launch an exclusive varsity jacket to celebrate the latter’s 40th anniversary.
Although Shawn Stussy may have left the brand in 1996, Stüssy has continued to thrive. This latest collaboration with COMME des GARÇONS showcases both brand’s achievements; paying homage to their stores, classic pieces and history. Using Kawakubo’s favoured monochromatic colour palette, this elevated statement piece will certainly turn heads.
Comprised of melton wool, the jacket features satin lining and is ribbed on the collar, hem and cuffs. The most eye-catching pieces are the large chenille patches found across the sleeves and the chest. On closer inspection, signature items such as Stüssy’s bucket hat and T-shirt and CDG’s fragrance bottle have been featured; a bold touch that leaves no guessing as to who is behind this luxurious jacket.
To the right of the chest, Stüssy’s store locations such as London, Tokyo and Paris are all embroidered; with a banner dated “1980-2020” underneath. If that wasn’t enough, the two iconic brands logos have been embroidered onto the left of the chest, whilst on the back of the jacket, there is a large CDG Surfman.
This luxurious varsity jacket is already causing quite the stir amongst both high fashion and streetwear fans alike.
