Nike has made a surprise announcement, revealing their long-rumoured collaboration with Jacquemus. A capsule from the two is set to release this summer.
Whispers of this collaboration first arose in 2020 when AMBUSH founder, Yoon Ahn posted a picture on Instagram, featuring a number of Nike-affiliated designers including herself, Virgil Abloh, Travis Scott, Martine Rose, and Hiroshi Fujiwara. Among these names was Simon Porte Jacquemus, despite not having collaborated with Nike at the time. During Jacquemus’ Fall/Winter 2021 campaign, models were spotted wearing classic Nike tennis silhouettes, stirring up more speculation.
As Nike’s latest female-focused collaborative partner, Jacquemus has designed a capsule based on Nike’s 90s sportswear campaigns and his love of their ACG line. In a quote from Nike News, Jacquemus describes the approach to this line of minimalist, vintage-inspired women’s sportswear. “We designed women’s athletic wear with sensuous details and neutral colours, along with my own interpretation of the Humara, my favourite Nike shoe. It was important for the collection to be accessible for all bodies, and to be a natural blend of Jacquemus style and Nike performance.”
The collection includes Jacquemus’ lowkey take on the Humara, as well as a pleated tennis skirt and a genderless bucket hat inspired by biking and hiking. In an interview with Vogue, Jacquemus listed his other inspirations, from the uniforms of Naomi Osaka and Emma Raducanu, to Princess Diana’s famous athleisure fits.
The Nike x Jacquemus collection will launch on 28th June exclusively on jacquemus.com, later releasing globally on Nike retail this Summer. For more news stay tuned to KLEKTIVE, and check out KLEKT to shop Nike releases.
