When Nike introduced its Space Hippie technology to the world earlier this year, the sneaker community was intrigued. Taking old pieces of its fabrics and product waste and transforming them into wearable sneakers enabled Nike to completely transform its production process. It also helped to cement the idea of sustainability in the sneaker world. After a few successful drops, the Space Hippie line is not going away any time soon. With an upcoming Air Jordan 1 using the technology, it’s getting a lot more exciting.
Taking the same recycled technology, this upcoming Air Jordan 1 is a step in the right direction for Nike’s Move to Zero campaign. Featuring Space Yarn throughout, the AJ1 “Space Hippie” is unlike any other Jordan seen before. A neutral black and grey base features red stitching around the ankle, rear and tongue, Elsewhere, an exposed collar helps to show off the inner construction of the shoe, much like the Off-White™ Air Jordan 1s.
The real star of the shoe on this Jordan 1, however, is the midsole and sole. Made using Nike Grind, the midsole is comprised entirely of recycled plastic. It means that every AJ1 midsole will be slightly different, with each having more or less multicoloured dots on show. This upcoming Jordan 1 also boasts Zoom technology, making it incredibly comfortable and good for the environment.
If you like the look of the Jordan 1 “Space Hippie” then good news. The sneaker is set to drop next month for around €175. Check out the official images below and let us know if you’ll cop these Jordans.
