Let’s face it, sneakerheads love to jump to conclusions. Whether it’s leaked releases, early news or just plain crazy rumours, the sneaker community tends to get ahead of itself. Late last week, Jayson Tatum, a Jordan Brand athlete, posted a picture of two pairs of “Cool Grey” Air Jordan 11s. Of course, the sneaker community immediately thought that these would release in 2020. However, we’ve got some bad news for you.
According to a Jordan Brand spokesperson, the “Cool Grey” Jordan 11s will not release this year. The news comes via Complex in which the spokesperson stated: “We don’t have plans to release them at this time.” Whilst this may be a kick in the teeth for the sneaker community, it is not something that should come as a surprise.
However, there is a nice story through all this disappointment. The spokesperson explained to Complex that these “Cool Grey” 11s were made exclusively for Tatum as he always wanted them growing up. Whilst sneakerheads were quick to remind him that these were not the OG iteration, we highly doubt that he cares. His version comes complete with mesh around the laces and upper, whereas the OG version and recent retail version featured nubuck.
Originally debuted in 2001, the Cool Grey Air Jordan 11s were the first non-original colourway used on the signature model. Since then, the sneaker has become a grail for many in the community. Inspired by the Air Max 95s colour gradient, the Cool Grey 11s inspired a number of other grey Jordans, including the Air Jordan 4.
Having not been seen for over a decade, it’s safe to say that sneakerheads will have to patiently wait to cop these.
