There are fewer collaborations in sneaker history that have driven as much hype as Off-White™ x Nike. After news broke in 2016 that Virgil Abloh would be working alongside the Swoosh to create a collection dubbed ‘The Ten.’ One of those reworked silhouettes was the Nike Air Max 90, which has since dropped in three colours; White, Black and Desert Ore. Rumours are now circulating that a fourth colourway is set to release this year; University Red.
Applying Abloh’s instantly recognisable aesthetic to the classic Nike silhouette, the latest Off-White™ x Nike collaboration has all the same hallmarks as its predecessors. The bold ‘University Red’ can be found throughout the upper is perhaps the star of the show on this sneaker; instantly drawing your attention to the scarlet coloured silhouette from whichever angle you see it from.
An elongated Swoosh is draped in ‘Team Orange’ and well-balanced through the use of ‘Hyper Jade’ lines. The familiar text is placed on the medial side of the shoe and the shoelaces, with a white zip tie being used. A ‘Bright Mango’ sole has been used, with an almost translucent look to it.
According to famed leak account @supreme_leaks_news, the Off-White™ x Nike Air Max 90 ‘University Red’ could see a release at some point this year, though there is no word from Abloh or Nike to confirm the news.
