The Air Jordan 1 is turning 35 this year. Sneakerheads around the world are celebrating and for good reason. Originally debuted by Michael Jordan in 1985, the Air Jordan 1 has gone on to become one of the most memorable sneakers of all time. Over the past 35 years, the AJ1 has been reimagined, redesigned and rocked in countless ways. To celebrate, Nike is dropping a special pack that recognises the Jordan 1 and His Airness’ original shoe, the Air Ship.
Dubbed the “New Beginnings” pack, Nike has kept things simple. Using the famed white and red of the Chicago Bulls, both sneakers feature leather throughout. To make things simpler, we thought we’d break down both shoes to give a better insight into each.
Packaging
Both shoes come in a special box with their respective release years on the inside, as well as the original style tags. The shoes are expected to drop on February 12th just before All-Star Weekend.
Air Ship
As many sneakerheads will know, Michael Jordan used to wear Nike Air Ship PEs before he was given a signature shoe. Nike has taken things back to the roots of the story. the Air Ship is adorned in sleek white leather and adding red touches on the collar and Swoosh. A white midsole with a red sole rounds the shoe off nicely, with white laces giving this shoe its simple edge.
Air Jordan 1
This is one Air Jordan 1 that every sneakerhead will want to get their hands on. A white leather base makes the perfect backdrop for the red leather accents to shine against. Red laces and a crisp white sock liner and insole round the upper off nicely, with a white midsole and red outsole bringing the whole thing together.
