Since 1999, COMME des GARÇONS and Nike have cooked up some of the hottest collaboration sneakers of all time. The two-decade-long relationship has covered everything from Air Max to Presto and almost every notable Nike silhouette in between. Thankfully for us, the relationship is far from over. This week, CDG will be dropping two Nike Dunks with a little twist.
First introduced at the COMME des GARÇONS WOMEN’s Paris show in September, the latest CDG x Nike silhouette sees the two rework one of the most iconic models in sneaker history. Taking the basic design principle, CDG has reimagined the Nike Dunk into something completely new. For this particular collaboration, Rei Kawakubo’s CDG label has looked at its own history, drawing on Tokyo as a source of inspiration.
Elements of the bustling Japanese capital can be seen throughout this shoe. The bold CDG print personifies the city’s graffiti, whilst the semi-translucent upper reflects the hidden elements of the underground. Of course, the importance of the Nike Dunk in streetwear is largely down to Japanese exclusives and collaborations.
Building on the already successful 2017 COMME des GARÇONS x Nike Dunk collaboration, Kawakubo has created a perfectly unisex silhouette that looks at the past to create the future. New Nike materials such as Nexkin gives the shoe a playful transparent look without feeling too out there.
If you’re looking to cop these on Thursday, good luck. The drop will be exclusive to CDG and DSM locations, with a wider release expected soon after. Sizes will range from women’s 5-14 and men’s 3.5-12.5. Check out the official images below and let us know if you’re feeling this CDG x Nike Dunk collab.
