Street basketball in America is just as important as the NBA. Leagues have been set up across the entire country, giving many great players the chance to prove themselves on the court. For decades, Los Angeles and New York have arguably the best street basketball culture in the world. Whether it’s been documented in films like He Got Game or just played by regular people, street basketball is an important thread in the American basketball tapestry.
Dropping as one half of a two-part pack, Nike is set to honour the Drew League from Los Angeles. Since being founded in 1973, the Drew League has attracted some of the biggest names in basketball. Everyone from LeBron James to James Harden has competed in the league, showing just how big it really is. As a key figure in the Los Angeles sports community, the Drew League has helped countless players from all over the world.
In honour of that achievement, Nike is releasing a commemorative Air Force 1. Using a simple all-white base, subtle branding has been placed on the sneaker. The heel features a black embroidered “Drew League, whilst the tongue tag shares the same logo. On the insole, this logo can also be spotted, elevating Bruce Kilgore’s iconic design.
Dropping as the counterpart to the “NY vs NY” Nike Air Force 1, you can expect this to be a limited sneaker. Check out the images below and let us know if you’ll cop this AF1.
