There is no doubt that Virgil Abloh is one of the most influential people in fashion right now. The 39-year-old Chicago native has risen to the very top of the industry, replacing Kim Jones at Louis Vuitton back in 2017. Hwork with Nike and Jordan Brand has also seen him become a serious contender in the sneaker industry too. After the success of this year’s Off-White™ x Air Jordan 5, many had hoped to see more of Abloh’s spin on the classic 1990 silhouette. Thankfully, more is yet to come.
Having been previewed by Abloh during Paris Fashion Week, the Off-White™ x Air Jordan 5 “Sail” has been on the sneaker radar for a while now. Abloh’s ode to the “Fire Red” is a 21st-century take on one of MJs most famous models. Much like the “Muslin” Air Jordan 5 that dropped back in February, there are some unique details on this Off-White™ Jordan.
The upcoming Off-White™ 5s features a “Sail” textile mesh upper which is semi-translucent. A 3M reflective tongue has also been used, linking directly back to the OG “Fire Red” 5s. The black midsole also boasts “Fire Red” shark teeth and a slightly yellowed midsole. Holes have also been placed throughout this Off-White™ Jordan 5, much the same as its predecessor. Of course, Abloh’s signature details such as the text, zip tie and slick packaging are included.
