The combination of Wales Bonner’s luxurious design language and retro adidas silhouettes has made for some of the most fashionable sneakers in recent memory. This summer they’re looking to outdo themselves with their latest capsule featuring six new sneakers.
Titled ‘The Rift Valley Runners’, this collection draws inspiration from the legacy of East African runners. Speaking of runners, the SL72 has been a recurring canvas for the Wales Bonner x adidas collab. Last summer, Wales Bonner released two pairs with distinct knit uppers, preempting adidas giving the Summer Olympic classic a wider push. With this SS24 release, Wales Bonner is moving on to the SL76.
Both the SL76s feature the unique knit upper from their predecessor, but stand out with way hairier suede and metallic lace rings. The first colourway is a soft pale ‘Ash Blue’ with black leather stripes. The other is a ‘Yellow’ pair with black stripes evoking the classic Bruce Lee look.
This collection also features two pairs of Samba OGs. These pairs come in neutral ‘Desert White’ and ‘Wonder Clay’ colourways with varying blue and white accents. The nylon and suede uppers from previous collabs feature on both pairs, as well as the faux crocodile stripes.
Lastly, this collection takes things a step further with two pairs of Samba Millenniums. This 2000s update hasn’t been in regular circulation since 2009, but got a special collaborative release via Adsum earlier this year. Now with the Samba OG still on top form it looks like the MN model is making a big comeback.
Wales Bonner presents the MN in two colourways, each with distinct premium touches on the heels. The rear portion of the ‘Wonder White’ MN is covered in genuine brown nappa leather in a wrinkled elephant pattern. And finally, the heel of the smooth ‘Desert’ brown gets completely covered in bold royal blue pony hair.
The ‘Rift Valley Runners’ capsule drops on Adidas Confirmed and other select retailers on the 21st of May. The collection also features a range of clothing including running shorts and two tracksuits. As always if you miss out on retail, be sure to check for listings on KLEKT.
