Founded by the late Keith Hufnagel in San Francisco in 2002, HUF has become a titan in the worlds of skating and streetwear. Now the skate label celebrates the 20th anniversary of one of its biggest collaborations, the HUF x Nike Air Max 1.
When it comes to skate collabs, the first sneakers you think of would probably be Dunks or Jordans. But no, HUF’s first Nike collab was on the Air Max 1. Limited to 24 pairs, this Friends & Family release kicked off a historic lineup collabs. From there, HUF established an incredible timeline of collabs. These include the AM90s from Nike’s international 2006 ‘Clerk’s Pack’, all the way to the SB Dunk Mystery pack in 2022.
The OG AM1 collab featured a light grey perforated leather upper instead of the usual mesh. Darker suede overlays covered the midfoot, with glossy leather on the mudguard. The shoe also payed tribute to HUF’s hometown, with the San Francisco skyline embroidered on the heel. Lastly, the shoe was highlighted with HUF’s signature bright green accents.
20 years later and the HUF AM1 is back, but with a few changes. Details like the perforated toe box and skyline embroidery are gone, giving the shoe a smoother, simpler look. However, the biggest change with this release is that it’s not just one colourway, its three.
The other two colourways in this pack are ‘Brilliant Orange’ and ‘Pink Pow’. Both colourways were recently teased via Instagram. These orange and pink pairs were never originally released but were samples from early design stages.
Whether their F&F or unreleased samples, this HUF x Air Max 1 SP pack gives sneakerheads a chance to cop a piece of history. This pack is set to release on the 15th of June via HUF’s store, and via SNKRS and select retailers on the 22nd. As always, if you miss out on retail, be sure to check out the listings on KLEKT.
