Over the past decade or so, sacai has put its stamp on the sneaker world with its unique Nike collabs. This December, they’re dropping the new Nike Magmascape, their latest forward-thinking mash-up design.
The Magmascape is a fusion of two classic Nike models. The first is the Air Magma, a hiking design from the 1980s. The second is the Footscape, a futuristic running design from the 90s.
The first two colourways draw inspiration from the classic models. The ‘Light British Tan’ cololurway draws from the traditional outdoor vibes of the Air Magma, while the sleek ‘Varsity Royal’ is ripped straight from the OG Footscape. There’s also a stealthy black colourway with no locked in drop date as of yet.
The upper comes in a mix of breathable mesh and premium suede, with a high top boot-like ankle. Twin laces are always a staple of sacai’s collabs, but this set stands out even more on the Footscape’s unique off-centre lacing system.
The midsole is usually the centrepiece of sacai’s designs, where the doubled-up aesthetic really comes together. The Magmascape is no exception, with the Footscape’s ergonomic, form-fitting midsole sitting on top of the Air Magma’s sturdy, cushioned wedge.
Sacai has previously tackled classic Nike models from the 70s like the Cortez, Blazer and Waffle Racer. The Magmascape feels like a real jump, taking on more futuristic, tech-heavy, cult classic designs. The boot-like outdoor design and sturdy waffle sole also make these a perfect fit for the Winter season.
The Nike x sacai Magmascape drops on the 7th of December. If you miss out on the retail release be sure to check out the range of sacai collabs available on KLEKT.
