Since linking up with New Balance in 2020, Joe Freshgoods has set himself apart as one of the most influential voices in sneakers. Every collaboration tells a story, drawing from cultural moments and personal memories. Now, for 2026, Joe Freshgoods is applying that signature nostalgic approach to New Balance’s futuristic 1890 model.

This two-pair pack pays tribute to the larger-than-life visuals that defined late-'90s and early-2000s hip-hop and R&B, drawing from the vibrant music videos that dominated television screens during the MTV era. Think glossy sets, bold styling choices, fish-eye lenses, and saturated colours. That visual energy helped shape an entire generation’s understanding of fashion and culture.

That influence is immediately visible across both pairs. The ‘Naughty Things’ colourway features deep purple and violet tones on the gradient mesh upper, while the ‘Finger Waves’ turns up the heat with a fiery orange look. These flashy colours contrast with the 1890’s sleek black synthetic panels, while reflective detailing nods to the flashy aesthetics that defined the era.

Co-branding remains relatively subtle, allowing the storytelling to take centre stage. JFG x NB details can be found throughout the tongue, insoles, and the special-edition packaging. All of this slick presentation comes together to bring the concept to life.

The 1890 itself is already one of New Balance’s most exciting new models. Combining dynamic running-inspired design with modern cushioning technology, the silhouette perfectly balances performance and lifestyle appeal. In typical Joe Freshgoods fashion, the shoe feels both nostalgic and forward-thinking at the same time.

The Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 1890 pack is dropping on 9 June. Miss out on retail? Head over to KLEKT to find fully authenticated pairs.
