Salehe Bembury has consistently been one of the most in-demand designers in the sneaker industry. Over the past few years, he’s worked with brands including Versace, Yeezy, Clarks, and New Balance. This year, Bembury immediately sought to continue his hot streak with his
New Balance 1906R ‘Heat be Hot’ pack. But between all these collaborations, he’s also taken on a role as a creative director at Crocs. The partnership between Salehe Bembury and Crocs has made massive waves in the foam world, thanks to their uniquely stylish Pollex Clogs. Now, their collaboration is taking on a whole new dimension with the upcoming Juniper sneaker.
Let’s start at the bottom. The Juniper borrows the same sole design from the Pollex Clog. This green translucent swirling sole is of course modelled on Bembury’s own fingerprints. The sole then wraps around the edges of the upper, which comes in perforated, salmon-pink leather.
The leather upper is also built on a neoprene bootie for a secure, comfortable fit. This and the inner tongue tag suggest that the Juniper is built around outdoor wear, “mind your comfort, comfort your mind, the outdoors is yours”.
The Juniper sneaker appears to be a fusion of the unique shapes found on the Pollex Clogs, and the bold colour schemes and patterns of Salehe Bembury’s sneaker collabs. While this may be a whole new look for Crocs, it’s a perfect next step for Bembury’s design language.
