Last year, Aimé Leon Dore founder Teddy Santis was named creative director of New Balance’s Made in the USA line. Now, Santis’ first drop is coming, with fresh takes on the first three versions of the iconic 990 series.
The three versions of the Made in the USA runner come in hairy grey suede, with hints of tan, pigskin suede, accenting various components such as the heel tab of the 990v1, the entire heel of the v2, and the mesh portions of the v3. The release showcases the evolution of the 990 series, from the simple rounded 574-esque silhouette of the 990v1 to the chunkier, more detailed 990v3.
Santis’ debut on the Made in the USA line follows a string of successful collaborations between New Balance and Aimé Leon Dore, the most famous being their revival of the NB 550. In the announcement of his appointment last year, Santis said he was drawn to New Balance for their “integrity and authenticity”, and this is clear to see his simple revival of their classic designs.
The rest of this new release features a range of elevated apparel, including tracksuits, shorts, tees and sweatshirts, oozing a vintage, preppy, Americana vibe. The new Made in the USA collection is set to launch via the New Balance website on 26th May.
