For one night, the most famous shirt sponsor in football steps aside. When FC Barcelona host Real Madrid at Spotify Camp Nou on 25 October, the chest of the home shirt will not read Spotify. It will read GOLF.
Spotify and FC Barcelona have handed the El Clásico kit to Tyler, the Creator and his label GOLF WANG. It is the first time Spotify has given an artist and their brand full creative control over a kit takeover, and the project goes well beyond one shirt: there is a match jersey, a lifestyle collection, a short film directed by Tyler and an event in Barcelona.
The GOLF El Clásico Jersey
The match shirt keeps Barça's classic blaugrana stripes and swaps the Spotify wordmark for a yellow GOLF logo. FC Barcelona Femení will wear the kit first on 24 October, and the men's team follows a day later against Real Madrid. The jersey also lands in KONAMI's eFootball from 23 October.
GOLF WANG is producing 1,899 limited-edition jerseys, a nod to the year FC Barcelona was founded. With a number that small and two fan bases this large, the shirt is likely to be one of the harder football pieces to get this autumn.
The Spotify x GOLF WANG x FC Barcelona Collection
The lifestyle capsule takes GOLF WANG's playful approach to sportswear and runs it through Barça's history. The palette moves away from the usual red and blue towards brown, teal, burgundy and blue, with leopard-style prints, a script 'Barça' in chenille and a flaming club crest framed by 'GÖLF BARÇA' lettering.
The range includes a Letterman Jacket, a Track Jacket, a Zip Hoodie, Track Pants, Soccer Shorts, long- and short-sleeve retro jerseys and three graphic T-shirts, led by a 'GOL!!F' design. Accessories round it out: a co-branded scarf, a skully, socks, a Nalgene bottle, a football, an enamel pin and a sticker pack.
To mark the launch, Spotify is hosting a 'Copa de Golf' event in Barcelona on 24 October, with a DJ set from Yung Taco and local artists Bexnil, Alu Nuenga, Duna and Mushka.
