Over the past few weeks, we’ve started to see more and more of the upcoming fragment design x Air Jordan 3. The news has been getting the sneaker and streetwear community excited, to say the least. As the only second time that fragment design and Jordan Brand have officially worked together, this is a rare occasion for sneakerheads. Whilst many initially thought that only a fragment design x Air Jordan 3 would release, that looks to be changing.
Revealed yesterday by Nike, an entire fragment design x Air Jordan collaboration is in the works. The capsule collection features everything from apparel to sneakers, with Hiroshi Fujiwara putting his spin across a number of classic pieces. Inspired by American gym wear, Fujiwara stated that “I was looking at the vintage Jordan collections. I wanted to feel what the clothes looked like — the atmosphere and what it felt like to wear them then, including nylon tracksuits.” The results are perfect, with graphics featuring fragment design and Michael Jordan in action emblazoned across a number of pieces.
The real talking point in this collection is, of course, the shoes. Both an Air Jordan 3 and Jordan Cadence will drop, both of which have been doing the rounds on Instagram for a number of months. Fujiwara looked back at the Air Jordan 3 “Orca” from 2004, taking inspiration from the simple monochromatic colour scheme and applying it across the shoe. Subtle branding can be seen on the shoe, playing on Fujiwara’s love of keeping things simple.
Although the Jordan Cadence may seem a strange choice of shoe, it’s perfect. It represents the multifaceted approach that Jordan Brand has, combining traditional detailing of iconic models with new technologies. Featuring the Air Jordan 3 heel unit, the Jordan Cadence is decked out in simple grey mesh and suede, with simple fragment branding featuring on the heel. All we know is, we can’t wait to try and cop both of these fragment Jordans.
If you like the look of this collection, then good luck. As you can probably imagine, this is going to be one of the drops of the year. The entire fragment design x Air Jordan collection will release on September 17th via Nike and Tier 0 retailers. Check out the images below and let us know if you’ll try cop.
