With the Air Jordan 5 celebrating its 30th birthday this year, Jordan Brand has gone big on the silhouette. Tinker Hatfield’s creation first hit the hardwood in 1990 and has since remained one of the most recognisable sneakers in history. Made famous arguably by Will Smith in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the “Grape” Air Jordan 5 is a classic colourway of the popular sneaker. Well, it looks like Jordan Brand is remixing the colourway for 2020.
Jordan Brand has flipped this design on its head, taking the classic “Grape” colourway from 1990 and bringing it into the 21st Century. Replacing the traditional white leather is a bold purple suede has been used throughout, giving this silhouette a new look. The noir accents on the midsole replace the familiar purple. This is also accented on the 3M tongue, with a “New Emerald” Jumpman being paired with matching shark teeth. Finishing this sneaker off is an icy sole, which is accented with a transparent lace dubrae.
