Revealed as part of its SS22 show, it looks as though a COMME des GARCONS x Nike Air Sunder Max is on the way. Over the past few years, CDG and Rei Kawakubo have dug deep into the Nike archives using obscure silhouettes. From the ACG Air Mowabb to the Air Carnivore, CDG often chooses more forgotten Nike models. Well, it looks as though we’re going to see another with the CDG x Nike Air Sunder Max.
Previewed in three colourways at the COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS SS22 collection, Rei Kawakubo et al have gone for a late 90s banger. Taking the 1998 Nike shoe, CDG has stripped the shoe back into a more wearable option. Constructed in neoprene and premium leather, the silhouette doesn’t look out of place in 2021. Minimal Nike branding comes in the form of a mini Swoosh, sitting nicely at the top of the lateral side. A zipper closure features “COMME des GARÇONS” on the pull and replaces the laces entirely.
If you like the look of the COMME des GARCONS x Nike Air Sunder Max, then sit tight. All three colourways; all-white, all-black and white/black, are expected to release in early 2022. There’s no official news on a retail price yet, but we’d expect these to be over the €200 mark. Check out the runway images below and let us know if you’ll cop the CDG x Nike sneakers.
