With the Nike Dunk High making a triumphant return this year, it should come as no surprise that the iconic “Varsity Maize” is coming back. As one of the original “Be True To Your School” Dunks, the “Varsity Maize” has remained an icon in the rich lineage of the silhouette. For some sneakerheads, the perfect combination of black and yellow is an instant hit. Thankfully, after a long hiatus, the iconic Dunk colourway is set to appear once more next month.
Although most sneakerheads know all about this sneaker, we’ll give you a quick history lesson. Launched back in 1985, the “Varsity Maize” colourway was adopted by the University of Iowa. Back in 1999, the Wu-Tang Clan released their version of the “Varsity Maize” which has since become a grail. Now, Nike is issuing the “Varsity Maize” in all its OG greatness. Premium leather has been used throughout, with the bold colour combination adorning the entire sneaker. A clean white midsole with a bright yellow sole brings the shoe to a close, thus continuing the celebration of all things Dunk this year.
