The world of sneakers is seldom used to having products called back. It’s very rare for Nike to pull a product from shelves but it does happen on some occasions. Last year, the Nike Air Max 1 “Betsy Ross” was recalled from stockists due to a flag used during the American Civil War. Of course, every brand makes mistakes. However, for the second consecutive year in a row, Nike is recalling the Air Force 1 “Puerto Rico.”

Late last night, Nike announced that it would be taking the “Puerto Rico” Air Force 1s. In a statement, a spokesperson explained that “Nike is removing the shoe from the marketplace, as it was intended to be a re-release of the Air Force 1 Low Puerto Rico from 2000 and the final product does not accurately reflect the original design.” The cause of the issue? Well, someone managed to sew the flag on the tongue backwards.

This is hardly a detail that can be ignored, with many Puerto Ricans upset by Nike’s distinct lack of thought when releasing the shoe. 2019’s Puerto Rico AF1 was also cancelled as it featured a pattern representative of Panama, not Puerto Rico. It seems like Nike is having no luck when it comes to the Puerto Rico Air Force 1s.

As you would expect, resellers have been quick to try and cop. The price on these Air Force 1s has shot up, leaving many upset they missed the chance. Check out the image below and let us know if you think Nike should have recalled them or not.
