Over the past few years, the topic of sustainability has become an important discussion in the world of sneakers. With more and more brands realising the impact they have on the planet, there has been a big shift in the way manufacturing processes are carried out. Though Nike may not have been the first brand to recycle waste, it has made a big effort in ensuring it is not the last. We now have official images of the upcoming Nike “Space Hippie” collection.
Featuring four silhouettes, the Space Hippie pack is the most planet conscious product in Nike’s history. On average, each shoe produces around 10kg of CO2 when manufactured. This is around the same as a 10-mile drive. With that in mind, Nike has taken things back to basics, looking at how it can turn waste into sneakers. The result is the Space Hippie collection, arguably one of the most innovative Nike products of all time.
Each of the four sneakers in the pack uses around 80-90% of recycled polyester Space Waste Yarn; a material made using Nike ZoomX foam and Crater foam. What this means is that each model has an extremely low carbon footprint. On top of that, the shoes are extremely unique in their design. Some feature laces and some are laceless, creating a never been seen aesthetic in the history of Nike footwear.
Releasing on June 11th via SNKRS and at select retailers, the Nike Space Hippie collection is going to be one of this month’s biggest drops. Check out the official images of each shoe below and let us know which pair you’ll cop.
