Late last month, the world tragically lost another star. Chadwick Boseman, aged just 43, sadly passed away after a four-year-long battle with colon cancer. The actor, who rose to fame in 2013 in 42 after his portrayal of Jackie Robinson, would go to become one of the most celebrated stars on the planet. His role in Black Panther was arguably the defining moment of his career in which he played T’Challa; the first of a five-part deal with Marvel.
Over the past few days, people from every corner of the globe have been paying their respects to Boseman. His career, which spanned just 20 years, is something that many in the industry have begun celebrating. However, many outside TV and film have also been highlighting the cultural importance of Boseman’s work on screen. From Barack Obama to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, people have celebrated Boseman’s life and lasting legacy.
Whilst it may only be a small gesture, we too will be honouring Chadwick Boseman in our own special way. Today, we’ll be taking a look at some of Chadwick Boseman’s best sneaker moments. As an avid footwear fan, Boseman was often spotted on red carpets donning everything from Christian Louboutin to Versace, but his sneakers also offered up some of his best moments. Ricardo Tisci x Nike Air Force 1 All-Star “Pink”
Ricardo Tisci’s work with Nike dates all the way back to 2014. Over the past six years, we’ve seen everything from Low tops to Knee High Boot AF1s, but its the Highs that are usually the best. In 2018, Ricardo Tisci and Nike teamed up to drop an All-Star version of the Nike Air Force 1 High, complete in three eye-catching colours. One of those colourways can be seen on the feet of Boseman.
Boseman wore the sneaker during his 2018 appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel show, something that caught the attention of many sneakerheads who tuned it. Dubbed the “Pink All-Star,” the Ricardo Tisci Air Force 1 features a primarily pink and red base. The sneaker is accented by splashes of burgundy on the heel and toe, as well as a white midsection creating a nice divide from all the colour. A large leather star adorns the rear panel, whilst an “R.T.” emblazoned across the heel lets you know who this collaboration is by.
Nike SB Dunk High “Black/Silver”
There is no denying that Nike SBs version of the Dunk High is an absolute classic. Back in 2018, Chadwick Boseman was spotted several times donning the Black/Silver iteration of the skateboarding silhouette. Bearing a striking resemblance to the Aleali May Air Jordan 1, this much more affordable version is arguably one of the best there is. Paired with a simple all-black ensemble, the shoe is a perfect example of Boseman’s ability to stay comfortable.
Nike Air Max 1 Flyknit “Oreo”
Flyknit is without a doubt one of the greatest revolutions in sneaker technology. First introduced by Nike in 2018, the knitted fabric has gone on to adorn almost everything from football boots to sneakers, making a name for itself in the industry. Whilst it may have taken a few years to eventually land on the iconic Air Max 1, when it did, it was a full circle moment for Nike. Spotted on the feet of Chadwick Boseman above, we have a look at the “Oreo” Air Max 1 Flyknit.
Comprised of a simple black and white Flyknit upper, the shoe boasts simple black overlays. The lightweight Air Max 1 uses a printed black Swoosh over the midsection, as well as a set of white laces, white tongue and white midsole. Seen here promoting Captain America: Civil War at the Telemundo Studio in Miami, it’s clear to see Boseman liked the Flynknit Air Max 1.
Christian Louboutin Vieira White Calf
As a source of inspiration for the Black community, Chadwick Boseman was given the honour of receiving his own Ebony Magazine cover in 2017. The candid interview carried out by Benjamin Schmidt showcased a side of Boseman that many had wanted to know about: what was the man like off-screen? Spotted wearing a pair of Christian Louboutin Vieira shoes, there is one line that seems to sum up Boseman as a man perfectly:
“Despite maintaining a shooting schedule that is truly around-the-clock, regularly appearing in fashion editorials donning stylish wares, and employing an array of agents and managers to handle an ever-mounting stack of potential work, Boseman retains his thoughtful and dynamic soul, one that is deeply private and unmotivated by temporary glamor or superficial risk.” We couldn’t agree more.
PSNY x Nike Air Force 1 High “White”
Chadwick Boseman had some pretty iconic red carpet moments, but this is undoubtedly one of his best. The late actor hit the Black Panther promo tour wearing some very eye-catching clothes, made none other by Jerry Lorenzo. Dressed head to toe in Fear of God, Boseman’s outfit was one of the standout moments of the evening. However, it was also what was on his feet that really got the sneaker community paying attention.
Wearing the Public School New York x Nike Air Force 1 High, this a slick overall look from Boseman. Founded by Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne, the brand began working with Nike in 2015. The contrasting combination of patterns, layering and deep colours is juxtaposed by a set of updated crisp white AF1s. There are some looks of Boseman’s that you simply can’t forget and this is definitely up there.
Nike Air Force 1 BHM
Finishing this list off, we have arguably one of the most understated sneakers from Nike’s Black History Month collection. Released in 2018, this Air Force 1 BHM features the Pan African flag running throughout the toe. A simple message can be seen wrapped around the strap: “EQUALITY.” Worn by Chadwick Boseman at the GQ All-Star party in 2018, it highlights the actor’s constant push to ensure that his community is heard.
Despite his illness, Boseman remained vigilant in showing his support for the Black community, something that the aforementioned interview with Ebony Magazine highlighted. Paired with a simple printed jumper and black jeans, the actor’s look is a masterclass in sophisticated sportswear. It is one thing that we will certainly miss from red carpets of the future.

It is a profound shame that Chadwick Boseman’s life, and career, was cut so short. At just 43 years of age, the South Carolina native had truly found his stride in the often cutthroat world of show business. From the tributes that have been shared by friends, family and fans, it is clear to see that this man was well-respected and loved by many. Whilst Boseman may have finished his time on earth, his legacy will never be forgotten. Wakanda forever.
