There are some moments in sneaker history that are pivotal. In 1948, Rudolf Dassler founded PUMA after falling out with his brother Adi Dassler. The two had come to a disagreement which saw Rudi start PUMA after leaving adidas. PUMA has remained one of the most important brands in sports and sneakers for over 70 years, with Rudi’s decision to leave making one of the greatest stories in footwear history. Now, PUMA is honouring the man himself with a special collection.
Dubbed the “Rudolf Dassler Legacy Collection”, PUMA has pulled silhouettes from its various divisions to honour Rudi’s work. In total, seven PUMA models make up the collection: the Fast Rider, the Sky Lo and Mid, the Capri, the Mirage, the Ralph Sampson Lo and Mid, the Oslo City and Roma ’68. Each sneaker features premium white leather and grey suede which is contrasted by a cream midsole. All of the sneakers are contrasted by colour pops on the tongue, with a gold hang tag commemorating the collection.
Whilst it may not be the most hyped of releases, PUMA is recognising its heritage in a special way. If you’re looking to cop the PUMA “Rudolf Dassler Legacy Collection” you will have to wait a little longer. The full range will be available on June 5th with varying prices.
