There are few characters in the gaming world that are as instantly recognisable as Sonic the Hedgehog. Originally developed in 1991, the bright blue hedgehog was an instant hit with gamers, spawning one of the most successful franchises in gaming history. When a film about the ring collecting superhero was revealed to be in the works, fans were exciting. It also sparked the question on who would create the lightning-fast shoes that Sonic is famous for wearing. Thankfully, Puma provided the answer.
In order to celebrate the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie, PUMA has recruited well-respected sneaker customiser Shoe Surgeon to create replicas of the heroes shoe. Due to the Shoe Surgeons high-end creations, he has gained clients such as Odell Beckham Jr., Drake and LeBron James.
Putting his signature touches on the cartoon silhouette, Shoe Surgeon has brought the sneaker to life. A luxurious red leather and mesh combo is contrasted with a large white strap across the midfoot. On the heel, a gloss leather panel contrasts the matte leather at the toe. A small red leather heel tab on the top. The only indication this is actually a PUMA shoe is the small yellow tag on the front which features minimal branding. On the inside, custom insoles feature Sonic graphics and lightning bolts.
If you’re looking to get your hands on these, you’ll need to know Sonic himself. Limited to just five pairs, the PUMA x Shoe Surgeon collaboration will not receive a wider release. As a promotional item for the film, these are a serious collector’s piece.
