Over the past few months, we’ve seen more and more of the Salehe Bembury x New Balance 2002R. Originally teased by Bembury himself, the Vice President of Sneakers and Men’s Footwear had us eager to see more. Whilst we’ve seen snippets here and there, it wasn’t until John Mayer gave us a full look at the New Balance collaboration that we got a real taste of what was to come. Now, we finally have a confirmed release date for the upcoming sneaker.
Supposedly designed in two days with the New Balance team, Bembury was inspired by two things: his move from New York to Los Angeles and his newfound appreciation of the outdoors. Heading back to the New Balance archive, Bembury emerged with the 2002 silhouette and applied the aforementioned inspirations throughout. With this being the first collaboration under his own namesake, it’s safe to say that Bembury has kicked things off with a bang.
A well-balanced combination of varying orange shades comes together to create an eye-catching NB silhouette. The Antelope Canyon-inspired colours can be seen throughout, with hairy suede, mesh and leather being used throughout. Cutting through this vibrancy is a purple shearling “N” motif, as well as a matching purple “Salehe Bembury” across the laces. A cork insole has also been used and features co-branding in white. Sitting atop a New Balance 860 V2 sole unit, the shoe offers a smooth ride as well as a statement upper.
The good news is that the confirmed release date for the Salehe Bembury is October 23rd for €150. Select stockists will have these so keep your eyes peeled. Check out the images below and let us know if you’ll cop the Salehe Bembury x New Balance 2002R.
