It should come as no surprise that Supreme has unveiled a collaboration with Japanese Erotica artist, Toshio Saeki. The New York Streetwear brand has always worked closely with artists, creating everything from decks to T-shirts and almost everything in between. In recent years, Supreme has broadened it’s horizons. However, we can’t remember a collaboration this (cough) “raunchy.” For Week 11 of Supreme FW20, things are hotting up.
Described as the “Godfather of Japanese Erotica”, Saeki was born in 1945 and had a passion for the arts. Studying at the Kyoto Municipal Hiyoshigaoka High School, Saeki enrolled in the art programme, making a name for himself amongst friends by producing “Shunga” drawings. Having gained popularity in the late 1960s, Saeki’s work saw him combine a number of lude elements; tying in themes of Japanese folklore, violence and humour to create his vision of a progressive form of erotica.
Whilst this may be one of the more provocative Supreme artist collabs that we’ve seen, it’s certainly eye-catching. Patches referencing Saeki’s work can be seen across a number of pieces, including Work Jackets, Hooded Sweatshirts and Work Pants. Although it may be a small release, it’s certainly causing quite the stir amongst Supreme fans.
The entire Supreme x Toshio Saeki collaboration will be available on November 5th. Check out the images below and let us know if you’re feeling this Supreme FW20 collab.
