30th birthdays are a big deal, even if they are for a sneaker. Back in 1990, Tinker Hatfield’s Air Jordan 5 design fitted Michael Jordan down to the ground. Fast forward three decades and the sneaker has remained one of the most important in Jordan’s legacy. After reissuing the original “Fire Red” colourway just last month, Jordan Brand is showing no signs of slowing down on Jordan 5 releases just yet. In fact, it’s just getting started.
Taking the classic “Grape” colourway from 1990, Jordan Brand has flipped the design on its head. Instead of the familiar white leather, bold purple suede has been used throughout, making for a slick addition to this Air Jordan 5. Black accents on the midsole replace the familiar purple, with a matching tongue adding to the effect. “New Emerald” adorns the shark teeth and Jumpman on the tongue, rounding this sneaker off nicely. The icy midsole bringing the 30-year-old silhouette into 2020.
If you’re looking to cop these Jordans, you have a little while left to wait. A rumoured release date of July 7th has been set, with an unconfirmed price of €190. Check out the images below and let us know if you’ll cop these Air Jordan 5s.
