There are a few big birthdays in the sneaker world this year spanning multiple brands. The adidas Superstar turns 50, whilst Nike is celebrating the 30th birthday of both the Air Max 90 and Air Jordan 5. Also turning quarter of a century this year is the Air Max 95, one of the most innovative running sneakers in history. To celebrate, Nike has released a string of premium releases for the past seven months. However, one upcoming version may just top the lot.
Last month, we reported that a Denham x Nike Air Max 95 “Volt” was in the works. Now, we finally have a look at just what’s to come. As you would probably expect from an Amsterdam-based jean maker, denim features throughout the shoes upper. Paying homage to the original “Neon” colourway, Denham has used varying shades of grey denim on each panel, keeping the familiar white mesh and volt accents on show. A beige suede heel tab replaces the traditional 3M reflective detail.
However, it is the use of a black denim toe that stretches up the upper that separates this from the “Neon” colourway. On the insole, tools of the trade can be spread across the design. Co-branding features too, with the statement “DENHAM The Jean Maker” printed on the inside of the shoe. Even the tissue paper has been well thought out!
This is arguably a contender for Air Max 95 of the year and quite honestly it’s easy to see why. The good news is that the Denham x Nike Air Max 95 “Volt” is set to launch at select retailers this summer. Retailing for an estimated €180, this is one AM95 you don’t want to miss.
