Few people in the fashion industry have had as big a year as Ronnie Fieg. The 35-year-old Kith founder and designer has been announcing some huge collaborations this year, despite a global pandemic. Names such as Looney Tunes, the USA Oympic Team and Nike are just a few brands Fieg has worked with in 2020. However, few collabs get sneakerheads as excited as Ronnie Fieg x ASICS. Well, it looks like we will be seeing three new Ronnie Fieg x ASICS Gel-Lyte IIIs this year.
In true Fieg style, he explained the process behind the three drops. “Since 2007, there’s only been one year I didn’t release a Gel Lyte iii. That stat will always bother me. We’ll make up for it this year.” With that in mind, Fieg has already begun showing off the three GL3s, giving us a closer look at the upcoming sneakers in great detail.
First, there is the “Super Gold” which features all-white leather and gold accents. The minimalistic approach is a subtle take on the sneaker that made Fieg famous. A second Gel-Lyte 3 also features a white leather base but uses soft pink and light blue accents. Splashes of grey can be seen on the heel cage, with a set of crisp white laces for good measure. And yet, there is one colourway that has got ASICS fans really excited, and for good reason.
Named the “252.1,” the sneaker is an updated version of the Ronnie Fieg designed David Z x ASICS Gel-Lyte III “252” pack. As the shoe that gave Fieg a start in the world of sneaker design, this is a pivotal moment for the Kith head honcho to revisit. Utilising a suede toebox, the new version replaces the traditional mesh. Black fabric has been used and given a slightly faded look, whilst gold ASICS Tiger stripes and a thin blue outsole bring the design to a close.
For now, we have no drop information on any of these sneakers. In true Fieg fashion, we’ll have to just sit tight and wait for a drop date. Check out the images and videos below and let us know if you’ll cop any of these Ronnie Fieg x ASICS Gel-Lyte IIIs.
