We may only be six days into the New Year but things are already heating up in the sneaker world. After debuting at the COMME des GARÇONS SS20 show at Paris Fashion Week last year, Rei Kawakubo’s take on the classic Nike runner has already got sneakerheads hot under the collar. Now, thanks to Nike, we have a much closer look at the upcoming collaboration ahead of the general release later this year.
As many sneakerheads will know, COMME des GARÇONS and Nike have a long and illustrious relationship that dates back to 1999. The two powerhouse brands have continued to work together to create some of the most desirable sneakers in Nike’s history. Taking inspiration from the signature monochromatic palette of Kawakubo’s iconic imprint, the COMME des GARÇONS x Nike Air Max 95 oozes chic simplicity.
As 2020 looks to get underway, CDG x Nike will be dropping the remixed Air Max 95 in three simple colourways; white, black and grey/black/off white. Using a combination of suede, mesh and denim, COMME des GARÇONS has created a sense of luxury on this sneaker that has not yet been seen before on its Air Max collaborations. A frayed a layered design helps to add a distressed texture, hiding the signature Swoosh on the heel.
The traditional lace loops found on Sergio Lozano’s classic Air Max design take on a new lease of life on this version. Three of the six lace loops have been brought forward, adding to the subtlety of the silhouette. A mixture of clear and filled Air Units also has you take a second look; with reflective accents ensuring that this shoe catches your attention.
Whilst there has been no further information about the release, early reports are suggesting that the sneaker will release in time for the Spring/Summer campaign.
