Sneakerheads around the world are celebrating the 35th birthday of the Air Jordan 1 this year. Michael Jordan’s first signature shoe with Nike has since become an icon in the footwear community, and for good reason. The Jordan 1 is, for many, the shoe that got them interested in the world of sneakers. Now, we have a closer look at a limited edition take on the iconic ‘Bred’ colourway, but with a slight difference.
Taking the same combination of black and red, the Air Jordan 1 ‘Varsity Red’ is as close to the real deal that we are going to get this year. Jordan Brand and Nike are taking it back to the OG roots of the sneaker, using the same leather structuring and shape as its predecessor. The familiar black lace eyelets of the ‘Bred’ colourway have been replaced with a red, a simple flip that helps bring this sneaker into 2020 in style.
A white midsole creates a perfect balance for the upper and red sole to work against, with the familiar details such as the black Jordan Wings logo making a return. However, this won’t be an easy cop for those looking to get their hands on a pair. Just 23,000 pairs of the ‘Varsity Red’ Air Jordan 1 will be released, each featuring a unique suede dust bag with the number placed on a gold plaque.
Whilst there is no confirmed release date just yet, early reports suggest that the Air Jordan 1 ‘Varsity Red’ will be released in February for around £160/€200, most likely to tie in with the NBA All-Star Weekend.
