Melody Ehsani, the designer behind the streetwear brand ME and LA creative, has revealed that she will be joining Foot Locker as the new Creative Director of its women’s department. As one of the most well-respected creatives in streetwear, Ehsani’s role will see her work with Foot Locker focus on creating exclusive capsule collections as well as increasing a much more curated approach to its selection of Nike and Jordan products.
It should come as no surprise that Melody Ehsani has secured this role. The LA-based designer has worked with a number of high profile brands and people of interest. From Wu-Tang Clan to Lauryn Hill and Jordan Brand to Michelle Obama, Ehsani’s work is already well documented in the world of streetwear. The reason for her appointment is simple Patricia Respress, Vice President and DMM Women’s Footwear and Apparel at Foot Locker, explained: “her diverse background of streetwear knowledge will help elevate our brand and expand our product offering, while driving real cultural impact within our women’s community”.
Taking to Instagram to reveal the news, Ehsani explained that: “I haven’t had a “job” in over a decade! But I’m so happy to be joining the @footlockerwomen / @footlocker family as the first Creative Director for their Women’s business. It’s cosmic that this announcement comes today on the anniversary of my dads passing. I love you dad!”
This is a great step by Foot Locker, understanding that women in streetwear need to have a dedicated place to get exclusive pieces as well as hyped GRs. Melody Ehsani’s appointment is a step in the right direction for the brand. According to Foot Locker, the first Ehsani designed capsule will release in Summer 2021 at select locations. We’ll have to wait a little while longer to see the apparel, but we’re already excited about this appointment.
