Fewer collaborations had more impact in the sneaker world than sacai and Nike’s in 2019. Under Chitose Abe, sacai’s founder and creative director, the Japanese label created one of the most memorable sneakers in recent history. When rumours began circulating in November that another sacai x Nike collab was underway, fans were intrigued to see what was in store. Thanks to sacai’s recent show at Paris Fashion Week, we now have a closer look at the upcoming sneaker.
Using the successful formula as last year’s collaboration, sacai has merged together two Nike silhouettes; the Pegasus and Vaporfly SP. A combination of old and new is seen on this sneaker. The Nike Pegasus was first introduced in 1983 and was a big hit amongst runners. The Nike Vaporfly released for the first time last year and also received great reception amongst athletes. By bringing the two shoes together, sacai has created something entirely new altogether.
Dubbed the sacai x Nike Vapor Waffle, the shoe uses a combination of mesh, leather and suede, giving this sneaker its high fashion premium feel. Two sets of laces, two midsoles, two tongues and two Swooshes can also be found on this upcoming sneaker. Three unique colourways will release; Black/Summit White/Pure Platinum, Sail/Sport Fuchsia/Light Bone/Game Royal and String/Black-Villain Red/Neptune Green.
Whilst the sacai x Nike Vapor Waffle may already be causing a divide in the community, you can expect it to be an instant sell-out.
