Paris Fashion Week is one of the most important weeks in the fashion calendar. It gives designers, old or new, the opportunity to showcase what they have in store for the SS or FW seasons. For style gurus and sneakerheads alike, it gives them the chance to see what to look forward to. PFW can also throw in a number of surprises, with COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT’s recent show doing just that.
The popular diffusion line of Rei Kawakubo’s iconic COMME des GARÇONS, COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT revealed an upcoming ASICS collaboration. Using the classic Gel-Lyte III sneaker as the chosen model, COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT has given it a unique twist that is eye-catching, to say the least.
A camouflage pattern is the centre focus of this shoe, for obvious reasons. A mixture of deep reds, candy floss pinks, rich navy and splashes of yellow and green make this one upper you won’t forget. Amidst all of the bright colours, grey panels help to add some balance. The sock liner, mudguard, lace eyes, heel and side panels are a neutral grey; a perfect link to COMME des GARÇONS monochromatic imprint.
White ASICS Tiger Stripes and white laces also help add to the neutrality, merging together a vibrant upper with much more reserved detailing. However, this detailing allows the multicoloured midsole to thrive. The same camo pattern adorns the midsole unit, adding to the playfulness of this silhouette. White COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT branding is overlayed on the heel of the midsole, with white Gel-Lyte III branding just above.
This is certainly one sneaker that you won’t forget in a heartbeat. It is also exciting to see CDG work with other Japanese brands. Thankfully, we shouldn’t have to wait long to see these COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT x ASICS sneakers release.
