When it was announced that Hedi Slimane would be departing Christian Dior in 2017, the fashion world was patiently waiting to know his replacement. Kim Jones, then Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton Menswear, revealed that he would be heading to Dior. Under Jones’ watchful eye, Dior has reasserted itself as one of the coolest brands on the planet. Collaborations with Daniel Arsham, Kaws and Jordan Brand have taken Dior one step further.
Now, we have a closer look at the French fashion house’s collab with Rimowa. After being revealed at the Dior Homme SS20 show last June, fans have been patiently waiting to get their hands on a Dior x Rimowa bag. Lucky ones were given the chance to cop earlier this year at a Rimowa pop-up; with a special Daniel Arsham edition also being available.
Taking Rimowa’s iconic luggage design, Dior has taken a minimalistic approach to this collaboration. The Dior x Rimowa clutch bag will release in four colours; silver, black, pink and blue. A process of anodizing has ensured that the pigments of each individual bag reflect. Known for having a superior strength and lightweight feel, Rimowa bags are highly coveted.
Small Dior branding can be seen across the front with a Rimowa logo on the back. removable Christian Dior branded leather strap is used and features snap buttons. On the inside, the designer accessory features a calfskin lined, three-compartment layout.
Rimowa has seen a monumental rise thanks to various collaborations over the past few years. Its work with Supreme, Daniel Arsham and now Dior have turned it from a premium luggage brand into one of the most well-known brands in streetwear. With the hype around this Dior collaboration only growing, this is most definitely going to be one of the accessories of the year.
