Daniel Arsham’s work is nothing short of mesmerising. His style, which has seen him add the likes of Usher, Pharrell Williams and Jay-Z as fans, is instantly recognisable. The contemporary artist has also worked with the likes of adidas and Dior; the latter of which he designed the runway for Kim Jones SS20 Dior show. Now, the 39-year-old artist has revealed one of the most nostalgic pieces in his portfolio so far.

In a work dubbed “Crystal Relic 002”, Arsham has transformed the classic Nintendo Game Boy into a crystalised piece of art. The second instalment in the “CRYSTAL RELIC” series, the first of which was a New Era five-panel cap, turns this piece of pop culture into a desirable piece. The Game Boy, which originally launched back in 1989, was one of the earliest portable games consoles.

Fans will be quick to notice how detailed the cast-resin pice by Arsham truly is. The hyper-realistic piece shows the D-pad, power button, “GAME BOY” branding and screen in remarkable accuracy. If that’s not enough, the completely transparent piece also has a Super Mario Land cartridge in the rear. What makes this so special is the fact that it’s completely removable; a truly remarkable piece.

Arsham’s creativity in his art is what sets him apart from the rest. The close personal friend of Ronnie Fieg has become one of the biggest artists on the planet thanks to his work. His process of crystallisation is what has made his work so sought after; turning everyday objects into “future archaeology” as he describes it. “3020”, as Arsham calls it, is already shaping up to be a big year for the New York-based creative.

Limited to just 500 pieces, the “Crystal Relic 002” is going to be one of the most desirable art drops of this year.

Crystal Relic 002 will release this Friday January 17th at 12 Noon ET at danielarsham.com/shop. This edition limited to 500 pieces is a continuation in my Crystal Relic series. The first which is composed of two interlocking elements. More information on the special packaging my studio has designed for this work will be revealed later this week.
