The word “legend” is thrown about too often nowadays. However, when it comes to describing skateboarding pioneer and icon Mark Gonzales, the word “legend” falls short. For the past 30 years, Gonzales has been a continuous source of inspiration for skaters around the world. His art, style and skating prowess are legendary in their own right, as are his sneakers. Thankfully, a new Gonz sneaker is on the way.
Gonz has worked with adidas a number of times on a number of silhouettes. However, one particular adidas model turns 50 this year, the Superstar. To celebrate, adidas has asked some of its family members to design special edition Superstar models, with Gonz getting the call-up. As you would expect, these sneakers personify what Mark Gonzales is.
Using a neutral white base, the sneaker is accented by a cream shell toe and sole unit. Furthermore, navy heel tab and insole is balanced by white laces and a textured tongue. Of course, the star of this shoe is the Shmoofoil treatment throughout the upper. The instantly recognisable Shmoo motif can be seen on the heel and side.
