No se puede negar la influencia que Ronnie Fieg tiene en el streetwear. Desde la fundación de Kith en 2011, el neoyorquino nativo ha estado transformando lentamente su marca en una potencia global. Como una zapatilla auto-certificada, Fieg sabe muy bien lo gratificante que puede ser la búsqueda de un par de zapatillas. Con Kith abriendo su nuevo buque insignia en Tokio este fin de semana, Fieg se asegura de que los sneakerheads tengan que trabajar duro para hacer frente a su Kith x Nike Air Force 1.
En una publicación de Instagram ayer, Fieg le explicó la importancia de la Nike Air Force 1 cuando estaba creciendo. Fieg explicó que:
“A principios de la década de 2000 (principalmente en 2001) Nike comenzó a lanzar exclusivamente Air Force 1’s en Japón que no estaban disponibles en ningún otro lugar. Este programa se llamaba Concept Japan o co. Jp. Estaba haciendo todo lo posible desde mi habitación en Queens para poner mis manos sobre ellos. Caza en línea, tratando de hacer conexiones en el extranjero, etc. Hasta el día de hoy, la co. LOS AF1 JP son algunos de mis favoritos. No sólo por sus colores y materiales únicos, sino también por lo difíciles que eran de conseguir. Momentos como estos son por eso que realmente me encanta el calzado.
“Finally, my dreams were realized when the good people at the Swoosh saw my vision and we worked together to relive the era of the co.JP’s with a Japan-exclusive Air Force 1 of my own. Inspired by the Japan flag (which is seen on the tongue label), we used a premium white leather upper with red hits like the velvet lining. We rounded it out with classic elements like a vintage off-white sole and an embroidered mini-Swoosh on the forefoot. Our Kith monogram on the quarter panels was the final seal of approval.
“The Kith x Nike Air Force 1 “Tokyo” will release in-store only at Kith Tokyo this Saturday 7/4. It will never release online or at any other Kith shop. For those of you who don’t live in Tokyo, I hope you appreciate the hunt the way I did 20 years ago.“
This may be disappointing news for some sneakerheads, but we think the concept is great. With a new generation of sneakerheads having the entire world at their fingertips, launching the sneaker this way is a nice change. If you’re looking to cop the Kith x Nike Air Force 1s, then good luck. The sneakers will launch exclusively at Kith Tokyo on Saturday July 4th.
