China has one of the richest and most expansive histories of all time. The country is a source of inspiration to many, with various dynasties and epochs ensuring a huge amount of diversity. Of course, China is not just a country that is steeped in history. Its culture is one of the most interesting on the planet and something that fascinates many around the world. Now, Jordan Brand is looking to honour two tales together on this upcoming Air Jordan 7.
Dubbed the Air Jordan 7 “China,” the sneaker is a tribute to Beijing’s Forbidden City. The Forbidden City is a former imperial palace that dates back to 1420 and is now a museum. As you would expect, there is a special place in the hearts of many Beijing natives for the Forbidden Palace. Jordan Brand has taken this story and applied it to a Jordan 7, with excellent results.
The multicoloured sneaker features black and white leather with unique graphic overlays appearing on the medial and lateral side. Subtle artwork can be seen throughout the shoe, referencing Forbidden City featuring dragons and Chinese characters. Of course, the obvious details are just one part of this special sneaker. Red, gold and jade work on the outsole, a knowing nod to traditional Chinese colour palettes. Housed in a special edition box, this is going to be one Air Jordan 7 you don’t want to miss.
If you like the look of these, then there’s some good and bad news. The Air Jordan 7 “China” will release on August 7th but only in China. Though there could be a worldwide release in the coming weeks, it seems very unlikely. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see. Take a closer look at the AJ7 “China” below and let us know if you’ll cop.
