In 1985, Nike launched one of its most successful sneaker campaigns with the Dunk. “Be True To Your School” gave college basketball players the chance to rock their school’s colours on their feet. Over the past 35 years, the BTTYS collection has scarcely been reissued. However, all that has started to change. Now, another OG Nike Dunk colourway is making a return: “University Red.”
With Dunks having a huge resurgence, now is the time for Nike to bring back some of its old favourites, but with a twist. We have already seen classic colourways like the “Plum” come back this year, leaving many wanting more from the silhouette. Earlier this year, Nike gave us retro versions of the “Syracuse” and “Kentucky” Dunks. In keeping with the school theme, the University Red Dunks take us back to the mid-80s once more.
Instead of the original high top version that released in 1985, Nike is opting for a much simpler low top. Featuring a white leather base and red accents on the mudguard, Swoosh, lace eyelets and heel panel, this is one of the cleanest sneakers we’ve seen in 2020 so far. Of course, familiar details like “Nike” on the heel give this shoe its OG feel without feeling too over the top.
Rumoured to cost €100 and drop in summer, these are one you don’t want to miss out on. Check out the image below and let us know if you’ll be adding these Nike Dunks to your rotation.
