Nike is pushing hard to ensure that its Move to Zero happens very soon. Since introducing the technological advancement of Space Hippie to the world, sneakerheads have been patiently waiting to see what more comes from the Nike Lab. After Jordan Brand revealed it would be launching a Crater Foam collection, many thought that would be it. Now, it looks as though Converse is going to do the same.
Revealed by Nike yesterday, the upcoming Converse Crater Foam collection takes one of the oldest silhouettes in sneakers and brings it into the future: the Chuck Taylor. In Nike’s own words, the upcoming “design draws from Nike’s pioneering Space Hippie efforts, but does so with a unique constraint: preserve the DNA of the world’s most iconic sneaker.” In short, Nike has revolutionised the Chuck Taylor from the ground up.
Still keeping the traditional design structure, Nike has replaced the canvas upper with Crater Foam completely. The result is a futuristic Chuck Taylor that keeps the integrity of the original design yet looks brand new. It doesn’t stop there, however. Nike has also ensured that the traditional rubber midsole has been replaced with Crater Foam, just the same as the Space Hippie. In total, more than 100 people collaborated on this project, showing just how much Nike cared about getting this process right.
