It seems as though adidas is planning to make 2020 its year. It’s ongoing collaborations with Kanye West, as well as new partners like Jonah Hill and Kerwin Frost, are setting it up for a big start to the year. The ongoing relationship between adidas and Prada is also rumoured to make a return (we hope). High fashion is making an important statement in the world of sneakers, something adidas’ latest collaborator, Craig Green, knows all about.
After debuting at Craig Green’s show last year, the adidas x CG sneakers are finally set to launch this month. Green, a native Londoner, unveiled his take on two classic adidas silhouettes last year; the Kamanda and Ozweego. The British fashion designer has reimagined these sneakers to create something entirely new; merging avant-garde design with everyday functionality. Green’s take on these quintessential adidas silhouettes are simply dubbed the CG Kontour I and CG Kontour II.
The CG Kontour I is Green’s version of the Kamanda; a recrafted shoe that features a perforated mesh upper combined with the chunky sole of the original sneaker. Dropping in both black and navy, the CG Kontour I has been designed to feature the sole within the upper.
This subtle detailing has also been applied to the CG Kontour II and makes for a clever twist on the original adidas design process. The monochromatic theme of Green’s collaboration has been applied to the CG Kontour II which drops in a white/black and all-black colourway.
Green’s designs have always pushed boundaries, with this latest adidas collaboration being no different. The British designer worked closely with the sportswear giant to create something entirely new from archive pieces. In Green’s own words “there’s so much you can do with sneakers that you can’t do with clothing. It’s exciting to think of all we can create in this collaborative project with adidas Originals.”
