Only a few football player’s sneakers are as instantly recognisable as those of Neymar. The 28-year-old has had one of the most interesting careers in football. From joining Santos FC in 2003 to becoming the most expensive football on the planet in 2017, Neymar has always been in the public eye. As one of Nike’s most looked after athletes, Neymar is no stranger to exclusive sneakers. In fact, he is arguably one of the beautiful games biggest sneaker collectors.
As you would probably expect, a man with an 11-year Nike deal has a few big pairs in his closet. Often spotted wearing the latest Off-White™ Nikes and rare collaborations, Neymar is a self-certified sneakerhead. On top of this, he is one of the only football players on the planet to be given his own Air Jordan collaboration, a rarity even in today’s world of collabs. That’s right folks, Neymar can compete with any sneaker collector.
With the season now at an end, we thought it was only right to round up some of Neymar’s best sneaker moments. Whether its been spending tens of thousands in stores or just by flaunting his own collabs, Neymar has always been an interesting figure in the sneaker community. Without further delay, let’s take a closer look at some of Neymar’s top sneaker moments.
Off-White™ x Nike Blazer “Grim Reaper”
Virgil Abloh and Nike have cooked up some of the rarest sneakers on the planet for the past three years. Since the introduction of “The Ten” in 2017, the two have always kept things fresh with their designs. Abloh, who’s love of deconstructionism can be seen throughout his collabs, has become one of the most respected designers in the world. Back in 2018, Nike and Off-White™ linked up to create two new Blazers just ahead of Halloween.
Pictured above wearing the Off-White™ x Nike Blazer “Grim Reaper,” this is one of Neymar’s top sneaker shots. Black mesh and oversized Swooshes work with a baby blue zip tag to create a perfect statement sneaker. As one of Nike’s key athletes, it is no real surprise that Neymar was spotted wearing this exclusive Off-White™ x Nike Blazer just after release date. Paired with an oversized Balenciaga hoodie and a basic Nike cap, this is one of Neymar’s best sneaker moments.
Air Jordan V Low “Neymar”
Whilst this may not be one of the most sought after Jordans in the world, it is undoubtedly one of the best football x Air Jordan crossovers in history. After a successful World Cup in 2014, Neymar had proved himself on the world stage once again in his home country. In 2016, Jordan Brand and Neymar would go onto reveal a very limited run of equipment that fused Neymar and Michael Jordan together.
Seen above with the Air Jordan 5 Low “Neymar,” His Airness can be seen holding Neymar’s take on the Tinker Hatfield design. A fully reflective 3M upper adds touches of black throughout, with a black midsole and icy sole unit. However, the real slick details here come on the heel. “23” and “10” appear on opposing sides, referencing MJ and Neymar’s jersey numbers. Although this is hardly a great Air Jordan 5, it’s importance in Neymar’s sneaker career is undeniable.
Nike React Element 87 “Dark Grey”
In 2018, Nike introduced the world to the React Element 87. The lightweight silhouette quickly became one of the most popular styles in the sneaker community, and for good reason. It’s comfortability, sleek construction and semi-translucent upper meant it was easy to wear. More importantly, however, Nike dropped it in a string of slick colourways just before it became something of a general release.
Pictured above in a full PSG tracksuit before heading to Bordeaux, Neymar can be seen in the Nike React Element 87 “Dark grey.” The muted colourway matches the tracksuit perfectly, creating a slick look. Of course, Neymar probably had no trouble getting his hand on a pair of these.
fragment design x Air Jordan 1
Hiroshi Fujiwara is without a doubt one of the most influential people in streetwear. The 56-year-old fashion designer is one of the pillars of Japanese fashion, being at the forefront of the underground scene for almost 30 years. In that time, he’s cooked up some pretty crazy collaborations, from Moncler to COMME des GARÇONS. However, his Air Jordan collaboration in 2014 is arguably his most desirable to date.
Posing with former Barcelona teammates, Neymar can be seen casually wearing the fragment design x Air Jordan 1. The sneaker uses a simple white, black and blue colour scheme and features a number of subtle design elements. Arguably the most important detail on this sneaker is the thunderbolt emblem that is embossed on the rear heel. These sold out pretty quickly on release day and now sell for thousands.
Nike Air Fear of God 1 “Sail”
Jerry Lorenzo and Nike have one of the simplest yet greatest working relationships in sneakers. The two first linked up back in 2018 with the Nike Air Fear of God 1; a 21st century take on high-end athletic footwear. Release in a Black/White and Sail, the collaboration was an instant hit. Since then, the resell value of the two OG Air Fear of God 1s has gone through the roof, with pairs selling for over €1,000. Fortunately for Neymar, he managed to secure a pair on release.
Pictured at the Balmain show in Paris, Neymar can be seen wearing a custom painted Balmain biker jacket, a set of biker cargos and the Fear of God 1s. The seamless combination of high-end fashion and sneakers works really well on this particular look. Whilst Neymar may not have walked the catwalk, he certainly caught the attention of the sneaker community with this outfit.
Off-White™ x Nike Vapormax
It is difficult to imagine what the sneaker world would look like if Off-White™ x Nike never happened. The 2017 collaboration kickstarted a sneaker revolution, as well as one of the most hyped sneaker lines in history. Taking ten of Nike’s most iconic design, Virgil Abloh created a real moment in the footwear community. His interpretation of the Nike Vapormax was one of the standout models, something Neymar knows only too well.
Pictured above with a Canadian tuxedo and a pair of Abloh’s Vapormax, Neymar wearing Off-White™ shoes is a big win for Abloh. Accessorised with a simple black T-shirt, a diamond chain and a black beanie, this is one of Neymar’s best outfits. Did you also notice the Supreme x Louis Vuitton sunglasses? Yeah, Neymar doesn’t mess around.
Patta x Air Jordan VII
Patta and Nike have one of the best relationships in sneakers. Since first working together for the first time in 2006, the two have launched some of the most sought after Air Max in history. Now, Patta is one of the most respected brands in streetwear. However, it wasn’t until 2019 that Jordan Brand and Patta would eventually link up, creating the Patta x Air Jordan 7 in the process.
Draped in maroon and brown leather overlays, the sneaker uses a satin red tongue to cut through the earthy-toned silhouette. Oversized “Patta” branding can be seen across the midsole, whilst the insole bears co-branding too. Worn here with the matching Patta x Air Jordan apparel, this is certainly one of Neymar’s boldest sneaker looks.
Off-White™ x Air Jordan 5 “Muslin”
Virgil Abloh and Jordan Brand joined forces for the fourth time this year to create one of the year’s toughest drops. Taking the Air Jordan 5, Abloh put his spin on the classic sneaker for the 30th anniversary. As the first Jordan that Abloh owned, the sneaker took reference from the “Black Metallic.” Signature details such as cut out holes, text on the medial side and a zip tag all came as standard. The Off-White™ x Air Jordan 5 “Muslin” is arguably one of this year’s best dorps. Of course, Neymar got his pair.
Whilst Kylian Mbappe may have stolen the limelight wearing the Air Dior Jordan 1, it is hard to ignore what Neymar has on his feet. Pictured sat together at the NBA Paris Game, the two teammates made quite a bit of noise in the sneaker community, and for good reason. The two were spotted rocking two of the most hyped Jordans on the planet whilst taking in some of the best basketball. It’s not a bad life, is it?
