Nike has always honoured countries with various exclusive sneakers. Whether its city-themed Air Max models or just a simple pair of patriotic Cortez, Nike makes sure it keeps its global customer base happy. Back in 2002, Nike gave Puerto Rico its own Air Force 1. Three years later, Nike launched a second Puerto Rico AF1 for good measure, this time flipping the original navy colourway to make a brand new pair. Now, after a 15-year hiatus, the Air Force 1 “Puerto Rico” is making a return.
The Caribbean Island has a rich history with the United States, with Nike making sure its people are not forgotten. Featuring the same classic colouring as the OG version, the reissued Puerto Rico AF1s look as crisp as its predecessor. A simple white leather base is accented by a navy sock liner, tongue and heel tab. A crisp white midsole features a navy outsole and “AIR” text help to create some balance on this country crep. However, it’s the embossed Puerto Rico flag on the heel and tongue that really bring this AF1 together.
Already rumoured to launch on June 26th for €130, this is one patriotic pair of AF1s. Check out the first images below and let us know if you’ll cop these Air Force.
