There are few fashion houses on the planet as revered as Fendi. Since Karl Lagerfeld’s tragic passing last year, Fendi has been experiencing a period of mourning. With Silvia Venturini Fendi taking over the helm since Lagerfeld’s death, LVMH has been waiting for the right name to inject as much life into the brand as Lagerfeld. In a shocking turn of events, that name has now been revealed as Dior Homme Artistic Director, Kim Jones.

In an Instagram post, Jones revealed that he would be joining Fendi as part of the women’s haute couture, ready-to-wear and fur collections. According to reports, Jones will be working alongside Silvia Venturini Fendi to create the upcoming collections. Jones followed up the announcement with another Instagram post explaining that:

“I would like to profoundly thank Monsieur Arnault, Pietro Beccari, Serge Brunschwig and Silvia Venturini Fendi for this incredible opportunity. Working across two such prestigious houses is a true honour as a designer and to be able to join the house of Fendi as well as continuing my work at Dior Men’s is a huge privilege.”

In a statement from the LVMH press office, Bernard Arnault explained that: “Kim Jones is a great talent and since joining, he has continuously proven his ability to adapt to the codes and heritage of the LVMH houses while revisiting them with great modernity and audacity. At Fendi, I am convinced that his vision and passion will highly contribute to the success of the women’s collections.”

Kim Jones has a wealth of experience working under the LVMH umbrella. After joining Louis Vuitton in 2011, Jones ushered in a new wave at the French fashion house before moving on to Dior in 2017. Jones’ work with Supreme x Louis Vuitton and Air Dior has allowed him to be given almost free reign at any Fashion house. This is, in fact, the first time that Jones has worked on womenswear since 2004 and will join a prestigious group of designers who work across two fashion houses.

Kim Jones will present his first FENDI ready-to-wear collection for Fall/Winter 2021-22 season during Milan Fashion Week in February. Keep it locked to the KLEKT Blog where we’ll update you on this story as more breaks.
