This week we are sitting down with Austrian sneaker/streetwear influencer and hockey player @izdomm. Growing up in the 90’s, Dom found himself heavily influenced by the music industry. Dom’s own Instagram reflects the influence of this era in both the sneakers he wears and how he styles them. Be sure to head over to @izdomm’s Instagram to get your hands on a special promo running just for his followers this weekend on KLEKT.
Today we will be delving into sneakers that started it all and the developing sneaker scene in hockey. Hailing from a small town in Austria, we discuss the struggle of copping limited sneakers and why Nike is the ultimate sneaker brand. Let’s get into it!
Who’s the person behind this account?
Hello KLEKT, thanks for having me. My name is Dom (@izdomm on IG), I’m 25 years old and an Austrian sneaker/streetwear collector and hockey player.
How did your passion for sneakers start?
Looking back, I was heavily influenced by music when it comes to both sneakers and streetwear. I remember as a young kid watching music videos and wanting the shoes featured. It then all started with collecting Air Max 1’s and 90’s. Sometime after that, I started getting into other silhouettes too. Coming from a small town in Austria, it’s quite hard to get limited sneakers for retail. I remember a local store getting the Jordan 4 Black Cement in 2012 and I managed to get the last of like ten pairs in store (my first pair of Jordan’s). Unfortunately, I rocked these to death.
So, Dominic, we saw you also play ice hockey! How would you describe the sneaker scene in hockey?
Yes, I started playing ice hockey when I was three years old and still have the privilege to play today. I think the sneaker scene in hockey is getting bigger and bigger. Especially the younger players in North America. Auston Matthews and William Nylander wear limited sneakers and influence junior hockey players to start collecting sneakers too.
In general, which sneaker brand is your favourite and why?
That has to be definitely Nike/Jordan Brand. The stories behind Nike sneakers are insane, in my opinion. At the same time, Nike always manages to do interesting collaborations with brands, artists or athletes, making their shoes more desired than all of the other brands. The collabs with Kanye, Virgil or Travis Scott are historic.
Dominic, tell us your top 5 all-time favourites in your collection?
My favourite Sneakers in my collection at the moment are
