Let’s face it, Stone Island x New Balance is probably one partnership nobody saw coming in 2021. Revealed just yesterday, Stone Island and New Balance confirmed that a multi-year deal had been signed between the two brands. Having recently been acquired by Moncler, Stone Island is still making a lot of noise in the streetwear community. Whilst the news may come as a surprise to fans of both respective brands, the is good reasoning behind it.

In an Instagram post, Stone Island delved deeper into the reason behind the new partnership. Carlo Rivetti, President and Creative Director of Stone Island, explained that: “There are only a limited number of brands that can be referred to as iconic. They are so because of the consistency throughout their history, their strong vision and endless passion put into product making, always with the aim of serving the end-users. With no concession to complacency. Stone Island and New Balance have shown that they are of this breed. To exchange concepts and ideas by opening doors to each other’s R&D teams, with the aim to create [a] great… product, is exciting and the greatest message we can jointly convey to our audiences.”

Chris Davis, Chief Marketing Officer at New Balance, further amplified Rivetti’s thoughts, stating that: “Our collaboration with Stone Island is not only rooted in performance innovation but elevating our mutual values of premium craftsmanship and superior product quality. Both New Balance and Stone Island are independently minded brands with strong aptitudes for calculated risk-taking. We both pride ourselves on having our fingers on the pulse of culture, elevating our rich heritage, and creating authentic brand experiences for our global consumers. We look forward to pushing the boundaries and experimenting with design.”

Serious Stone Island and New Balance fans will, of course, remember that this isn’t the first time the two have worked together, with an Italian-only SI-577. Whilst we are yet to see what’s to come from Stone Island x New Balance, the story alone is an exciting one. For now, we’ll have to sit and wait.
