Let’s face it, we’re pretty sure that nobody saw a Supreme x SOUTH2 WEST8 collaboration lined up for this season. Although Supreme is known for its outlandish collabs, this could be one of the bolder ones that we’ve seen in SS21 so far. For those not in the know, SOUTH2 WEST8 falls under the NEPENTHES family and is led by Kaname Nagaoka. The reason why this unlikely partnership has taken people by surprise? It’s inspired by fishing.
Tenkara, a traditional Japanese fly fishing technique which by rough definition means “from the sky” or “From Heaven,” focuses on a minimalistic approach. SOUTH2 WEST8 has taken the traditional Japanese way of fishing and created garments that play on the historical importance whilst also bringing a sense of creativity along with it. As you can probably imagine, that has led to a number of pretty crazy pieces that combine sensibility with forward-thinking materials.
For its collaboration with SOUTH2 WEST8, Supreme has taken some of its most functional pieces and put a fresh spin on them. River Trek Jackets with matching Pants and Jungle Hats, Bush Parkas and Matching Vest, pants, Mesh Game Bag, Tulip Hats and Balaclavas all come as standard. Alongside the mesh, Fleece Jackets and matching Belted Pants come adorned with a barb wire graphic throughout, whilst simple Circle Horn Longsleeve Tees bring things to a close. Arguably our favourite item from this drop, however, is the co-branded Tenkara Fishing Rodcomplere with Supreme graphics and traditional Japanese hair burrs.
If you’re feeling this Supreme x SOUTH2 WEST 8 collection then good luck. The entire range will launch exclusively on Supreme on April 22nd. There’s no news on prices just yet, but you can expect this to be on the more high-end side of things. Take a closer look at the lookbook images below and let us know if you’ll cop any of this Supreme.
