The Nike Dunk has had a massive resurgence over the past 12 months. Celebrities like Travis Scott and PJ Tucker have championed the silhouettes return, donning rare pairs to bring the hype back. As the month has gone on, more exclusive pairs have started cropping up. One of those Nike SB Dunk Lows comes from San Francisco skate shop StrangeLove.
Founded by Sean Cliver, StrangeLove has quickly become one of the coolest skate shops in America. Cliver has long since had a good relationship with Nike SB sales rep Nick Halkias, which eventually led to them starting StrangeLove. For the store’s first Nike SB, StrangeLove has used the connotations surrounding the latter half of its name.
This is shown perfectly with the materials; a combination of durable crushed velvet and suede. A well-balanced white, red and red tongue tag come in suede, with the heel and mudguard using a soft pink. The tongue uses a co-branded StrangeLove/Nike tag, with StrangeLove’s classic “Heart Skull” motif making an appearance on the heel. A white midsole with a semi-translucent outsole features love hearts underneath; bringing the romantic sneaker to a close.
However, the devil is really in the detail when it comes to StrangeLove’s Nike collaboration. The store has taken inspiration from its elementary school education for its special edition packaging. Using the traditional Valentines Day cards box as its muse, the packaging comes complete with the “Heart Skull” emblem and is rounded off with special artwork, cards, decals and a print.
Given the surrounding hype around these Nike Dunks, you can expect these to be one of February’s toughest cops.
